In the spring of 2024, DesignStudio's New York office invited me to join the team working on bringing the EA FC Pro Worlds 2024 brand to life.
Although the brand was always intended to be ephemeral, this was an important project for the client as it marked the first major competition since the game was de-franchised from FIFA.
The initial task was to visualize the newly designed trophy and the Halo, a crown-like object central to the brand's visual language. Drawing inspiration from themes of excellence and ascension, the brand elevated the players to the status of true royalty in the sport. These concepts were embodied in a 3D material that resembled forged gold, evoking medieval holy artefacts.
Following that, I moved into developing the concept and directing the promo trailer for the finals. Using a non-linear edit, the film showcases both the Halo and the trophy coming together, as the former metaphorically symbolizes the latter. Between those scenes, we see the main players being crowned and their greatest moments on the pitch, leaving an open question as to who will rise to the top. All this is set to a soundtrack that mixes modern and traditional instrumentation to convey the energy and epicness of the contest.
This project was created in collaboration with Eric Ng, Rachel Honigman, Sam Bailey, Luke Winn, Rémi Sorbet, Hayden Shields, Adam Witton, and Father.
